Open letter from the International Montessori School
For several weeks, our school has been facing a situation of unprecedented gravity. Allegations of sexual abuse have been made against members of our staff.
First, our thoughts are with the plaintiffs and their children. We can only imagine the distress they are currently experiencing in the face of acts which, if proven, have no place in a school. Since the creation of our school, we have endeavoured to defend values such as respect, integrity and pay particular attention to the well-being and safety of the children; values which inspire us and which we have always defended.
Faced with the seriousness of the allegations, the school immediately mobilised and actively collaborated in the preliminary investigation conducted by the gendarmerie. In addition, the school filed a complaint against X, joining forces with the plaintiffs to do everything possible to get to the truth. Our educational team was interviewed and reacted in an exemplary manner throughout the investigation.
In accordance with the precautionary principle, staff members concerned by these accusations left the school environment immediately. Nevertheless, we would like to inform you, after having conducted an internal investigation, that no member of our team has ever witnessed any inappropriate gesture on their part. We would also like to remind you of the fundamental principle of presumption of innocence, which states that anyone suspected or prosecuted is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Our thoughts are thus also with our colleagues, who remain innocent until proven guilty and who are going through a terribly difficult time.
Finally, despite the psychological difficulty of this ordeal, we would like to reaffirm our determination to pursue our primary mission for which our team is perfectly qualified: the care and education of our pupils, in accordance with our values and curriculum objectives. Indeed, we have preserved the children's working environment, and we will continue to fight to protect it as we have done for 21 years. Our pupils, more fulfilled and passionate about their work than ever, remind us every day why we undertook this project and why we defend it. Aware of the expectations you have as parents, the management is committed to keeping you informed as soon as possible, while respecting the confidentiality of the investigations that are underway, throughout this period.
